Nemours

In January, 2005, the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund contributed funding to
provide a part time Artist-in-Residence for the Nemours Children’s Clinic Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Unit to improve the quality of life for the children suffering from leukemia and cancer. Expression through fine arts aids in the healing process and brings nourishing spirit to these children.

The Clinic is transformed into an art studio and art expression is provided to the children for 12 hours per week.

The patient’s artwork is displayed on the 8th floor and a new project will involve the children creating large murals for the lobby and children’s artwork displayed in the cafeteria.

Art With A Heart For Children also supports the Jay Fund’s Remembrance Weekend an event for families who have lost a child to leukemia or cancer. Each year 20 to 25 families gather at The World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, for a few days of healing. Counselors, social workers, psychologists, physicians, and clergy members and Art with a Heart artists all volunteer to conduct the sessions.

Healing Tree

The children we serve:

The Nemours Pediatric Hemotology and Oncology Clinic provides out patient services, which include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and other treatments to children with life threatening illnesses.

Art With A Heart For Children’s open art studio provides the children with
art expression session, which improves the quality of life for the children and also provides a much needed distraction. This patient group mirrors the community’s statistics for under-privileged children.

According to Baptist Hospital’s patient survey, 40% of the children come from homes at or below the poverty level. In terms of art education, we believe that more than 70% have essentially no school-based access to fine arts education.
