Five days a week, at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, young patient’s hospital rooms are magically transformed into interactive art studios.

A resident artist, interns, volunteers, and the “Art Cart”, a self-contained workshop on wheels, make regular visits to the hospital’s Pediatric, Intensive Care, Oncology, Dialysis, and Behavioral Health Units.

The artist becomes the child’s guide, motivator, cheerleader, and friend
as the delight of pastel, watercolor, and tempura quickly replaces pain, boredom, and depression.

A monthly “visiting artist” adds depth to the experience by engaging the children with new concepts, styles, and techniques.

Children are also motivated to donate their work to either traveling or permanent exhibits throughout the First Coast.

The children we serve:

On any given day, there are more than 50 children, ages 4 to 19, in
Wolfson Children’s Hospital’s Dialysis Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care, Oncology Unit, Mental Health Unit, Teen Room, Infectious Disease Unit, and General Care areas. This patient group mirrors the community’s statistics for under-privileged children.

According to Baptist Hospital’s patient survey, 40% of the children come from homes at or below the poverty level. In terms of art education, we believe that more than 70% have essentially no school-based access to fine arts education.

More than 5,000 seriously ill children and their families have benefited directly from Art With A Heart For Children’s healing approach.
